Announcement: Public Housing Waitlists Opening For Applications October 25, 2022 at 7am

The following was published in the Public Notices section of the Kitsap Sun on October 11, 2022:

BREMERTON, WASHINGTON – Bremerton Housing Authority (BHA) is opening the public housing waitlists for new applications on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 7am through 3pm Pacific Time. Anyone interested in renting a subsidized unit in one of the BHA properties located within the Bremerton, WA city limits is encouraged to apply as close to time of opening as possible. Please note these waitlists are NOT for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) or Section 8 programs and assistance will only be available at predetermined properties. Applications must be submitted online through BHA’s RENTCafé website at www.bremertonhousing.org/app-portal. More information on how to make a free account and complete the application in RENTCafé is also available on www.bremertonhousing.org/rentcafe.

Unlike other waitlist openings, waitlist positions WILL be determined by date and time of application. BHA must comply with federal requirements and existing policy to select applicants from the waitlist on a first come, first served basis. Everyone who applies for the waitlist will be placed on the waitlist based on when they apply so it is important to apply at the earliest time available. To save time on the day of opening, BHA encourages anyone interested in applying to register for an account in RENTCafé as soon as possible. If the household already has an account, BHA encourages registered users to ensure they have access to their account and email prior to October 25, 2022. More information on how to register and login is available at www.bremertonhousing.org/rentcafe.

Only one application per family will be accepted and at least one member of the household must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Program eligibility will be determined when the applicant reaches the top of the waitlist. Placement on the waitlist does not indicate that the family is, in fact, eligible for assistance. Applicants will receive a confirmation email when their place on the waitlist is confirmed. Applicants will not be provided with a position number on the waitlist; they will only receive confirmation that they have a position on the waitlist. BHA is unable to give specific information about how long an applicant will be on the waitlist. BHA will use the contact information provided in BHA’s RENTCafé to contact the applicant once they reach the top of the waitlist. Applicants are encouraged to keep this information updated and maintain access to their email address.
