A Word From Our Executive Director
Dear Bremerton Community,
I’m so excited to announce that Bremerton Housing Authority now owns and manages a new 30-unit apartment complex on Warren Avenue. It is our first property in downtown Bremerton and the first of its kind for many reasons. This housing complex, called Evergreen Bright Start, will welcome 24 young adults who are facing homelessness or exiting foster care. We are partnering with local non-profit, work-training, and educational organizations to provide on-site services designed to support our young residents on their path to independent living.
Young adulthood is a frightening time to be living on the streets. A lack of housing makes everything more difficult and more unsafe. From our work with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families and local service providers connecting young adults exiting foster care with local landlords.
Many of partners share our concerns that young adults in our community who lacked safe and affordable housing also lacked the ability to utilize services because their core need was housing.
This project is an expansion of our Foster Youth to Independence Voucher program that has provided voucher rental assistance to 23 youth who aged out of foster care in Bremerton over the past two years. That program spotlighted the dire lack of housing for not only foster youth aging out of foster care but for all young adults in our community experiencing housing insecurity.
As we do for all of our residents and our clients, we look forward to supporting the Evergreen Bright Start residents and we commit to serving them with compassion and the guiding principles that govern the work we do each day as we pursue BHA’s mission.
Thank you,
Jill Stanton
